![]() ![]() It’s a 45-minute episode of “Hot Potato” and, with no real depth, it becomes a gimmick that overstays its welcome. He never spends time in one body long enough to interact with others or really learn anything from spending time within them. Instead, we just watch Harry chase the money he’s stolen from the bank by inhabiting others. It’s assumed “The Who of You” would be a remake of the segment in 1983’s “Twilight Zone: The Movie,” “Time Out,” wherein a racist learns the error of his ways by inhabiting the bodies of others. The premise is highly compelling, especially as Harry jumps into the bodies of a police officer, an Asian barista, a Latina, and eventually a Black psychic played by Billy Porter. Similarly to “Meet in the Middle” is the second episode, “The Who of You.” Directed by Peter Atencio, who’d worked on the Jordan Peele-starring feature “Keanu,” and written by series executive producer Win Rosenfeld, it’s the story of a struggling actor, Harry (played by Ethan Embry) who, in his attempt to rob a bank, realizes he can jump into the bodies of others by looking them in the eye. Emerson Skye Coutts and Gillian Jacobs in “The Twilight Zone” CBS His obsession and entitlement starts to take over, and it’s a shame that the episode ends on more a noirish finale, as it undercuts Phil’s clear desire to own Annie. Meanwhile, as the episode shows but never overtly states, Phil kinda sucks. You can understand why any man would gravitate toward her, and while the scenario plays out a bit too much like “Her,” you want her to be happy. As the voice in Phil’s head, Jacobs evokes a cool, warm presence. That being said, this is Gillian Jacobs’ episode, even though she doesn’t appear for the majority of it. This episode isn’t nearly as long as Season 1’s premiere, “The Comedian” and that’s to its benefit, especially when Phil is our main source of physical connection. If you’ve seen Simpson in “Westworld,” his Phil has several parallels. But when he starts hearing the voice of an unknown woman named Annie (voiced by Gillian Jacobs), he wonders if he’s truly found his ideal mate.Ĭhang and Amini have a solid foundation for this episode with Simpson’s Phil being the type of guy who bemoans the fact that all women are vapid and shallow, yet doesn’t care that he acts standoffish and creepy, at one point criticizing a prospective date for not having curly hair like in her profile. The premiere, “Meet in the Middle” - written by Emily Chang and Sarah Amini, and directed by Mathias Herndl - seems heavily inspired by film noirs, particularly “Double Indemnity.” Jimmi Simpson plays a man unable (or unwilling) to connect with women because they fail to live up to his high standards. It’s unclear how long the other seven episodes are, but it’d be nice to see more consistency in the runtimes this season Season 1 saw episodes hit nearly an hour before eventually leaning closer to 30 minutes. In some cases, an extended runtime can help, particularly in the case of this season’s third episode, entitled “You Might Also Like.” Surprisingly, of the three episodes screened in advance for critics, the Osgood Perkins-directed installment is the shortest and uses its 40-minute runtime effectively, as to leave you begging for more. ‘Succession’ Review: Episode 9 Says Goodbye to a Father and Hello to the World He’s Wrought Talk to Emiliov about the 'Coal', and he says you can use the device in the middle of the platform to load your train with coal. Take the Small Key from the drawer to the left of the broken candy machine. Examine the broken candy machine on the counter where Emeliov was standing the first time you spoke with him. Go all the way to the north on the platform, and examine the gate there. Talk to Oscar, and when you mention 'Train', you discover that you will need to load the train with some coal before you can depart. Wind up the train by: turning the wheel to extend the winding device, then pulling the lever on the ground, then turning the wheel again to retract the device. Then head back outside, and go south to where Oscar is camped out. Follow him into the station house, and go talk to him. You immediately bump into Colonel Emeliov, the. So the first order of business is to find a way to do that here. As you may have learned from the original Syberia, this is an automaton train that needs to be wound up periodically. He's going to Syberia no matter what, and it looks like you are too. ![]() ![]() Head towards the front of the train and talk to Hans. The game begins as the train pulls into a station. It will at least give you a clue as to what transpired in the previous game, though playing the first game is not essential to enjoying or comprehending this one. If you haven't played the original Syberia, you should first use the 'Syberia Recap' button on the main menu. Besides gasoline pumps, one other significant device which is also found in filling stations and can refuel certain (compressed-air) vehicles is an air compressor, although generally these are just used to inflate car tires. Gasoline pumps are used to pump gasoline, diesel, compressed natural gas, CGH2, HCNG, LPG, liquid hydrogen, kerosene, alcohol fuel (like methanol, ethanol, butanol, propanol), biofuels (like straight vegetable oil, biodiesel), or other types of fuel into the tanks within vehicles and calculate the financial cost of the fuel transferred to the vehicle. A wide but narrow rectangular basin gives you a little more room to slide past to reach the toilet and shower. The choice of one compared to the other depends on the depth of encryption needed, the level of compatibility aimed, and the power of the Mac to complete the task Mac OS X manages by default 2 encoding schemes: AES-128 and AES-256. Cons: bigger than sparseimage when created. Pros: the modification of only one file affects only one band, and not the entire disk image, which turns backups more efficiently, even for a disk image sizing many GB. Sparse bundle disk image (Sparsebundle): this format is equivalent to Sparseimage, except that it is adapted to the local and networked incremental backups (like Time Machine or Personal Backup do), because, instead of creating a monolithic file of only one block, it gathers a package of bands. It always requires to define its size during its creation. Sparse disk image (Sparseimage): this format behaves like the standard Read/write, without its disadvantage: it grows bigger as it fills. It remains effective for cases where the size must be set from the beginning, in order to limit fragmentation, for example. Cons: its size is determined at the disk image creation (a 40MB disk image volume will take 40MB of real disk space). Read/write: the default format when continuing to work with files and to hide them from inquisitive eyes. ![]() This way to store files become useless: either you keep the disk image on your startup drive as a reference, or your archive it on a dedicated external medium. Once created, the resulting disk image is read-only (it cannot be modified any more). Compressed: the usual format to freeze a folder content taking up less possible space. There are many kind of disk images, but the most commonly used are the following ones, which refer to 4 different uses: It doesn't sound like it was reported as a bug, or opened as a case with AppleCare.Creating Disk Images as Substitute for SafesĪmong the tools provided by Apple with Mac OS X, the disk images are very similar to FileGuard safes. (Not a very good combination in several ways, but that's how it manages to avoid full backups of the encrypted sparse bundle.)Īnd I don't think the reference to a "guy at the Genius Bar" means anybody at Apple was really looking at anything to do with this. That's how Time Machine deals with a home folder that has File Vault enabled. A sparse bundle will be backed up band-by-band, not file-by-file. Unless I'm missing something, I don't think that applies here, or is likely to be changed. Would love to see some movement on this.here's the link to the thread: ![]() ![]() I tinkered with it this morning (on 10.6.4) and it's still a problem. At one point someone indicated that Apple Engineers were "working on the issue.", but nothing seemed to come from it. There is an archived thread that describes this in detail. It used to work in 10.5, but broke in 10.6.x. So I converted my encrypted sparse image to an encrypted sparse bundle, and now I can include it along with all my other files in my ordinary backups. Your backup software only has to copy the 8 MB band(s) containing any of that file's data (often only one). As a result, assuming your backup software treats the contents of bundles as individual files, you no longer have to back up a huge disk image just because a tiny file changed. What's cool about this is that if you change something on a sparse bundle (adding or modifying a file, for instance), only the band(s) containing that data change, not the whole bundle. (To verify this, you can Control-click or right-click a sparse bundle, choose Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu, and browse through its contents.) Inside that package is a folder full of bands - files that are each 8 MB in size, as many as are needed to hold the image's data. ![]() It's a bundle (also known as a package) - a folder that Mac OS X treats as a single file, which is also true of applications. What's different is that it isn't actually a single file, as all previous disk image formats were. :Ī sparse bundle looks and acts just like a sparse image - it can grow in size, can optionally be compressed or encrypted, and so on. Sparsebundle disk image instead of a sparseimage, that shouldn't happen. Verse Search is said to have been "the very first Bible study program available for home computer users", around 1980 or 1981, released on the Apple II. Interest in using computers to quickly search the Bible and copy sections of the text quickly into lessons and sermons emerged in the early 1980s. More advanced packages run on personal computers and boast far more features, display a wider variety of theological resources (see above), and may offer features such as synopses and harmonies of the Gospel narratives, morphological and syntactical searches of original texts, sentence diagramming, user notes, manual and dynamic highlighting, lectionary viewers, etc. Basic Bible software is typically aimed at mobile phones, and is designed to simply display the text of a single Bible translation, with word and phrase searches as the only available tool. However, biblical software is geared more toward word and phrase searches, accessing study bible notes and commentaries, referencing various modern translations, cross-referencing similar passages and topics, biblical dictionaries, original language texts and language tools, maps, charts, and other e-books deemed relevant to understanding texts from a philological approach.īible software varies in complexity and depth, depending on the needs of users, just as the purposes of the users vary from devotional reading and personal study to lesson and sermon preparation, inspirational publishing and even further research tools and translations. The list of games he's directed is a lot shorter than some other renowned developers, but it's all killer, no filler. Further illustrating his talents, in all those years he hasn't made a single bad game, which is a hell of a track record. All the stuff you love about Silent Hill? This guy created it. He began his career as a graphic designer on Hideo Kojima's cyberpunk visual novel Snatcher, before making his directorial debut in 1999 with the original Silent Hill-which he also wrote. Hopefully next year brings more news on both Slitterhead and any possible Silent Hill titles.Keiichiro Toyama has been making games for almost 30 years. Toyama confirmed they had finished the prototyping stage and they will now be “using our knowledge gained from the feedback to enter full production”. While production was due to ramp up this year, it appears this hasn’t happened. The game was announced at The Game Awards with a trailer, but aside from the fact that it features humans mutating into terrifying skeletal monstrosities that can rip other humans apart with ease, very little is known about it. In the meantime, Toyama’s new studio Bokeh Game Studio is developing an action adventure game called Slitterhead. Visually speaking it’s clearly not made for modern equipment, so I absolutely don’t have any objection to modifying an original essence to fit the modern era which we live in today. Unlike movies, games are difficult to enjoy as in the original state – obviously because of the platform, but as time goes by game mechanics especially in usability lack rationality and sophistication. I think you’d have to rethink the concept to make it interesting to fans. That’s not what it was about - how beautiful it was. It’s not an action game where you can just refine the action as in Biohazard, to bring Silent Hill up to current standards or to polish up the graphics, the fans wouldn’t be satisfied. I think it would be harder to remake than Biohazard, because the gameplay as a concept is a little older. Toyama also explained how it would be difficult to remake the original Silent Hill game and meet the expectations of fans, something that Capcom has largely managed to do with the Resident Evil ( Biohazard) remakes: ![]() The Silent Hill games, as well as new iterations of the Castlevania and Metal Gear Solid franchises are expected to be revealed during 2022. One is supposed to be a “major Japanese developer”, while Bloober Team confirmed they’re working with Konami on a horror IP. There are reportedly multiple Silent Hill games in development right now after Konami outsourced the franchise to “various external development studios”. One of the things about a new Silent Hill game that would most interest Toyama would be “to know what a new entry would leave and change from the original”. In the meantime, the newly-anounced Slitterhead is Toyama’s newest creation but is yet to enter full production. In an interview with VGC, Silent Hill director Keiichiro Toyama said that if a new game was released in the future, he would be “very interested in it”, especially in seeing in which direction the franchise would head. That doesn’t stop a potential remake being a popular topic of conversation, though. Despite rumors of multiple Silent Hill games in development, we’re yet to get an official announcement.
